Post-doctoral researcher

Dr. Forough Foolad My collaboration with Dr. Javan's lab began as a doctoral student and continued as a postdoctoral researcher. Providing new strategies for treatment and improving symptoms caused by neuronal disorders, as well as reducing the cost of treatment has been one of the goals of researchers in recent years. Drug penetration from the blood-brain barrier is one of the main concerns in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases. Therefore, in this study, we try to design a targeted drug delivery system using the unique properties of carbon nanoparticles based with the ability to cross the blood-brain barrier, and direct it to the site of glial scar with the aim of increasing drug performance and reduce the side effects of the drug.

Ph.D students

Nasrin Jangjoo, MSc. ~ Ph.D CandidateJangjoo

My Ph.D project is about the role of p-Tau in axonal degeneration following demyelination induction in Cuprizone model. I am trying to find out if p-Tau is an early driver of axon damage following demyelination.

Hamed Shiri, MSc. ~ Ph.D CandidateShiri

During my Ph.D project, we are looking at the role of sox2 and Olig2 in reprogramming of bone marrow and adipose tissue-derived mesenchymal stem cells to neural progenitors and oligodendrocyte lineage in vitro and in vivo. This project is a joint project with Royan institute in Iran as well as professor Martino’s lab in Italy.

Mohsen Sharifi, MSc. ~ Ph.D CandidateSharifi

My Ph.D project is about the potential role of some small molecules in reprogramming of astrocytes to oligodendrocyte lineage in vitro. I am doing the screening of some intracellular signaling pathways modifiers for possible conversion of astrocytes into OPCs.

Sahar Farhangi, MSc. ~ Ph.D CandidateFarhangi

I have just started my Ph.D project. In this project, we are looking for a couple of engineered peptides which can potentially target the ECM proteins. Then we will check their efficacy in demyelinated lesions in different animal models of multiple sclerosis. We hope to find a good candidate in order to specifically deliver the potential therapeutic compounds to lesions.

Atefeh Rayatpour, MSc. ~ Ph.D CandidateAtefeh Rayatpour M.Sc. ~ Ph.D. Candidate My PhD project is a joint project with Professor Chen lab at National Center for Nanoscience and Technology of China. In this project we are trying to develop a multifunctional nano system for targeted drug delivery to the site of demyelination in animal model of MS using polymeric nanoparticles and glial scar targeting peptides.

Shirin Bajovand MSc. ~ Ph.D Candidate I am a Ph.D. student at Neurorepair Laboratory since 2019. One hallmark pathology in MS is the degradation of myelin. It has been shown that besides their role in lowering cholesterol, statins have neuroprotection effects. In this picture, we hypothesized that they may have properties to help myelin repair too. My current project is to uncover the role of statin drugs on the protection and repair of myelin in the animal model of Multiple sclerosis.Shirin Bajovand MSc. ~ Ph.D Candidate

The Ph.D students from Joint projects

Mozhgan Alipour, MSc. ~ Ph.D CandidateAlipour

I am a PhD student in biophysics. I have started my work on magnetogenetics in the stem cell differentiation. Moreover, I evaluated the role of ion channels in cell differentiation using magnetic fields and molecular dynamics simulation.  Also, I am good at designing peptide drugs.

I am a Ph.D student of Pharmacology at the University of Barcelona. My doctoral thesis is a joint project with Prof. Javan’s lab in Tarbiat Modares University. This project is the study on the effect of NPCs transplantation on hippocampal sites of sporadic Alzheimer’s disease models, in combination with IP injection of Metformin.Saghar Rabiei Poor MSc. ~ Ph.D Candidate

Elham Paranavar MSc. ~ Ph.D Candidate

I am a Ph.D. student of biochemistry at the Institute of biochemistry and biophysics at Tehran University. My doctoral thesis is a joint project with Prof. Javan’s lab at Tarbiat Modares University.  In this project, we are trying to identify the correlation between aging, cellular senescence, and myelin repair to develop more efficient treatment in animal models of MS.
